Do you walk the kids to school, do you run walk or cycle to work or in your spare time? Would you like some motivation to start? If you have answered yes, then this could be the perfect way for you to do some fundraising for a wonderful charity.
We are looking for teams of 5 people who can all virtually cycle, row, run or walk from Aberdeen to the London Olympic village. The aim is for each team to complete 537 miles, which is the exact distance from Aberdeen or Inverness to the London Olympic Village. You just simply need to choose your category e.g. walk, hike, run, row, swim, cycle or you can enter a combined category if you’d prefer.
Why not set up a team of work colleagues, family or friends?
We’re looking at a sponsorship target of £500 per team. Individuals can also rise to the challenge if they would prefer, as we would like as many people to register their support as possible. For an individual, we would require a sponsorship target of £100.
Each team of up to 5 people registers on our website and each member can then log miles by running, swimming walking, cycling, rowing, or you can combine all of these categories if you’d prefer. The aim is for each team to complete 537 miles whilst raising as much money as possible for ARCHIE. The event runs from 1st to 30th June so you have 4 weeks to log your miles.
Track your own miles
ARCHIE has developed its own special website where you can update your steps or miles travelled. We will also supply you with pedometers to help track your progress. Gold, Silver and Bronze medals will be provided to the fastest and those raising the most money.
It is a good idea to set up a fundraising page on Justgiving at www.justgiving.com or Virginmoneygiving at www.virginmoneygiving.com. You can choose The ARCHIE Foundation as your chosen charity, select ARCHIE Virtual Olympic Challenge as your fundraising event and send the link to your page to family and friends. Alternatively we can provide sponsor forms.
I would very much appreciate it if you could circulate the information to your colleagues, family and friends and help drum up some interest. Every penny raised will ‘Make a Difference’ to the lives of sick children and their families throughout the North of Scotland when they really need it most.
What are we fundraising for?
ARCHIE is providing vital funds for a project that will help every child in Grampian who has a diagnosis of cerebral palsy or other neurological condition affecting their posture and movements.
The Sensory Dynamic Orthosis (SDO) Clinic will provide special lycra garments and staff to run the clinic. Research has shown that these garments, which can be worn for up to 6 hours a day as a therapeutic measure, help to improve a child's posture and quality of movement. Each suit is made to measure and is designed to address the child’s individual needs. The suits can improve the child’s quality of movement and enhance family life, as the child is easier to handle and position and is more able to achieve independence in mobility, movement and functional activities.
The total funding cost for this project is £74,000 which allows 2 garments for each child and includes initial staff training, staffing for 1 Occupational Therapist and Physiotherapist to support the fitting and running of the clinic.
